The X- Factor

For my X-Factor I really wanted to show examples of his choreography to really reiterate his style and movement qualities that are famous to him as a contemporary ballet choreographer since I have eluded to his groundedness yet still balletic movements in my other posts.
His choreography and ways of moving are simply beautiful in the fact that they are so obviously full of classical ballet technique but performed and executed in a way that is less than strictly classical.  He creates an equal blend of classicism and modern performance art through the dancer's technique and embodiment of his contemporary vision.

  1. I really liked watching "Duende". I thought it was interesting how classical music was used, but the movement opposed it in many sections. All of these dancers make the transitions so smooth. I noticed that the women especially are very articulate in their feet. They have such a lifted up quality that for a second I thought they were wearing point shoes. At the same time I can see the true grounded nature of the choreography.

  2. Nacho's choreography is stunning! I love how he incorporates stillness so much in "Duende." Also, I love the blend of ballet and innovative movement. His choreography glides seamlessly from promenades into contorted flips. This is a truly terrific merging of codified and novel movement.

  3. I absolutely love Mr. Nacho! Ever since I saw his choreography of "Petit Mort" on YouTube for a ballet paper I wrote, I have been in awe of him. His ideas of movement are so interesting, and I agree with Annamarie, I've never seen such seamless transitions, and just the way he combines that with ballet makes for such a beautiful masterpiece in the end.

  4. I love the sense of nontraditional partnering and modern and ballet fusion-It's truly beautiful to watch! It reminds me a bit of Twyla Tharp in how they fused the two together in a wonderful way. I have loved Nacho's choreographer and find him truly a profound and incredibly talented person!
